#ZapZika with GMO #Mosquitoes

zikaIt’s summer and we’re all looking for a safe-haven from Zika. Would you believe that the FDA has approved the release of genetically-modified mosquitoes to fight the virus? Yep. Birth defects like severe microcephaly are  the first evidence of Zika-related effects we’re seeing in humans but the mosquitoes are becoming resistant to the insecticide being used to control the virus-spreading mosquitoes. This was seen in Miami, where Marco Rubio has issued a statement expressing disapproval for women infected with the Zika virus to have an abortion.  Since Rubio is “strongly pro-life”, perhaps he’ll champion the cause for people with Type 1 diabetes to get life insurance? Just a thought.
