#IceBucketChallenge Scores Another #ALS Advancement

ALDRemember the Ice Bucket Challenge a few years ago that was all the rage? Well, the cause behind the challenge was to raise awareness and funding for a condition known as ALS. ALS is a neurological condition that causes people to lose control of their muscles and ultimately total loss of movement. The challenge resulted in a few marvelous changes for the advancement of ALS, such as the breakthrough discovery for the  gene associated with ALS. The more than $100 million raised in 30-days was not only an immediate phenomenon but the attention and fundraising has led to another advancement in treatment. For the first time in 22-years, ALS has a new drug that is shown to slow the decline of physical function by 33%. Who knew freezing water cold light a fire under the condition that’s been in a holding pattern for over 20-years? Kudos to compelling viral campaign!
