Drinking decaf coffee and power naps may not be the worst offenders to getting a goodnight sleep. The booby prize goes to the snooze button. This dandy little device may permit you another few minutes of rest but at what cost? A study finds that the snooze button actually jolts your nervous system and can lead to damage to your cardiovascular system. Put that into perspective and ask yourself if it’s worth the bodily damage. The other two options for pinching-out a few more minutes of sleep include switching to decaf coffee and power naps. The decaf idea is good if you drink less than 3 cups. The second you go over the limit – you’re consuming enough to interrupt your sleep. A power nap can shift your circadian rhythms in such a way that you’re resting like a hunter or gatherer. I’m sure that doesn’t jive well with your desk job. The easy option here? Challenge yourself to not use the snooze button for a few days. See if that helps your body fall into a more restful sleep and wake when the bell tolls…the first time. This alarm clock has a graduating alarm. It does have a snooze button but hopefully as it gently wakes you, the urge to snooze won’t cross your mind. Sweet dreams!
