Laughter can do wonders for healing the body. It also says a lot about the trigger of the laughter. When you’re in the company of a group of people laughing and it’s quick to start and quick to stop, it may be due to more of a social response than the actual content being humorous. When you find yourself uncontrollably laughing at something, it may be a more organic sense of humor to you. Depending on the ‘social’ or ‘uncontrollable’ laughter it can reveal the type of brain system that regulates your social interaction. This doesn’t mean anything good or bad. This just makes you more aware of what makes you tick. It makes me laugh uncontrollably watching Anchorman Ron Burgundy challenge a horse to a staring contest. To learn more about the types of laughter, watch the video featuring Professor of Communication Psychology. Are you laughing to follow the flow of social interactions or is it a helpless response? If the uncontrollable laughter stems from the nervous system to drive healing, what drives the social acceptance one? Laughter is the best medicine so don’t treat yourself with a generic brand of it.
