In the wake of the untimely death of Anthony Bourdain– it’s difficult to ignore the reality of the rising rate of suicide in the United States. Can we point a finger add any factors giving rise to this misfortune? More importantly – if we know to what the cause is perhaps we can find a way to correct it.
The rise is equitable among age, sex, race, and ethnic background. The leading factors pushing people to the edge are relationship issues and financial troubles. Geographically, however, it seems that the western states have it tougher.
Being more isolated, like many of the states, it takes a little longer for the economy to rebound. Add to that the accessibility of people to one another – it’s unlike urban and suburban area – it’s a lonely place to be depressed.
Suicidal thoughts are not easily swatted away from a melancholy state of mind. It also doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a chronic downward spiral giving way to a break.
