Remember back in the 90s when a high carb diet with no fat was all the rage? Fast forward to the South Beach era and it’s all about meat and high fat for weight loss. Today we are learning that all the studies route the years may have been flawed. What do we do now?
Another stroll down nutrition memory lane brings-up eggs, butter, and coconut oil. Egg yolks used to be the dietary ‘no-no’ in the 80s. Modern-day literature says enjoy up to 3 a day. They are the building blocks and the perfect protein, including the yolks! Butter had a black eye until people started learning of the dangers of margarine and trans fats. Leave coconut oil alone!
Here’s another fly in the ointment study: remember that study saying it’s healthy to have regular alcohol consumption? Yeah. That study was funded in-part by the alcohol industry. Bias much?
Let’s ignore the recent cry wolf on the Mediterranean diet. It’s clean enough to substantiate the claims formerly made regarding the heart health. But then again, is it?
As different as our fingerprints, we each function best with different nutritional needs. A bodybuilder with massive muscles may need way more protein and carbs than I could dream of consuming. His ‘cut’ day is my cheat week. Some people function best on vegetables and whole grains. Other can only function on a diet of quick carbs.
The moral of the nutritional story and the true lies behind it is the fact that each of us know what makes our bidies feel and function best. Regardless of what you read in a study, be your own science experiment. Nobody knows you and your body better than you!
