#Heat is the Enemy of #BrainPower

Ever notice how tired you get when it’s hot out? Well your brain feels and responds the same way to heat, according to a new study.

The participants in this study weren’t just any subjects – they were Harvard students. This, in fact, was a study done at Harvard in the dorms. Half of the participants were in a dorm with air conditioning, the other half were slumming it.

Upon awakening, the students were all given a test via their mobile phones. The students housed in the air conditioned building scored well for themselves. The students in the building without air conditioning scored 13.3% lower than those in the AC.

Beyond the Harvard students “roughing it”, this may translate directly to income and school performance. If Suzie lives in a home without air conditioning and Peter lives in a climate-controlled residence – are their tests graded on a curve? Of course not.

Survey says 87% of homes in America have AC. I was not one of them growing-up. My mom said we didn’t need it because we live in New York. She’s from South Carolina. Southern logic. I’m not sure how I made it this far but I promise you, without air conditioning I couldn’t make it much further. Show your brain  some love if you don’t have one yet. Do it for the kids!
