The scientific jury has confirmed that diabetes increases the risk for developing cancer. Why is this the case and what can we do about it?
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the world. Diabetes is one of the top three conditions afflicting populations worldwide. Women have more of a risk than men for developing cancer if they have diabetes.
Allow me to apply the “garage science” to this statistical finding. Diabetes means the body had difficulty metabolizing and/or using sugar. We have an excess of it coursing through our body. Tumors thrive on glucose. Amino acids, which come from proteins, become glucose in the body for fuel. Go figure. Eat more fats than proteins or carbs?
Reducing your cancer risk for people with and without diabetes is the same: wear sunscreen, exercise regularly, eat health and eat dinner early. For people with diabetes – perhaps eat more cucumbers. At all costs, reduce stress in your life. It may be public enemy #1 for a healthy immune system to fight-off cancer.
