#ArtificialSweeteners Kill the #GutBiome

Who would’ve thought artificial sweeteners could cause DNA mutations? A new study is showing us the truth behind those sugar-cheaters and it looks like we’re the  ones suffering the consequences of the don’t mess with Nature attitude behind it.

Nowadays, people are realizing how important a healthy gut microbiome is to overall health. It’s vital to healthy digestion, it’s pivotal to a strong immune system, and it’s the kingpin in overall mental health. Why are we unknowingly damaging it?

Researchers found that six common artificial sweeteners are the culprits behind this stick aftermath. These six include: aspartame, sucralose, saccharine, neotame, advantame, and acesulfame potassium-K. They are all mentioned because they damage the gut microbiome but some more than others.

These artificial sweeteners are approved by the FDA and found in many common products like soft drinks and sugar free products. Based on a simple imaging test, after the gut bacteria is exposed to the aforementioned substances, it clearly results in less of the very important gut flora.

Needless to say, the study found significant damage resulting from the artificial sweeteners. However the powers that be in the government are unwilling and/or unable to stamp a black box warning on these ubiquitous products. It’s happened before, Google it.  However this study can be shared with others you know and care about. Please do so.

If you’re a captive audience (like me) you may try and lean on the less damaging, less laboratory-engineered artificial sweetener like Truvia. It’s my “go to” when my body needs a little more sweetness.
