A golden rule when dieting is a little like we’re “Gremlins” don’t feed us after midnight. However science claims there’s food can be eaten before bed and it will help you burn calories in your sleep. Say what?
The merciful scientists from Florida State University discovered that a protein-rich food, like cottage cheese, may help rev the overnight metabolism. Eating 30 grams of protein shortly before bed is shown to help people retain lean muscle mass and burn-off fat.
A study where participants ate a surplus of calories from protein were shown to store excess calories in muscle, mot fat. This effectively increased their basal metabolism. A higher basal metabolism can burn more fat. This is where the claim comes to play and “this food burns calories in your sleep”. That’s the protein.
The magical thing about organic protein is that is suppresses hunger, takes more calories to burn, and it prevents muscle break-down. All three of these strong points give a study backbone to why protein is vital to weight loss.
Obviously the best sources of protein are the ones you can get in minimally process forms. Cottage cheese was touted in the study. Nuts also quality as a protein source. How about an Atkin’s favorite recipe including ricotta cheese?
